Spano Campaign Moves Into High Gear
With Kickoff Event and First Video
With the Democratic Primary set for Tuesday, June 25th, Mayor Mike Spano will kick off his campaign for re-election Tuesday, June 4th, with a fundraising rally at Castle Royale in Yonkers. The event will begin 6 p.m.
The campaign will also be releasing its first commercial today which can be viewed at www.mikespano.com.
The commercial highlights the Spano Administration’s success in restoring the City’s finances, improving schools, keeping our streets safe, controlling taxes, and attracting new development, jobs and housing.
“We’ve tremendous success during this term, but there’s much more we plan to do to keep Yonkers moving forward,” said Spano, “The first step is to remind everyone to vote in the Democratic Primary on Tuesday, June 25th.”
Spano said that although Tuesday marks the campaign kickoff, he has been knocking on doors for the past few months to talk to Yonkers residents one on one. “The response has been tremendous,” he said, “People are very upbeat about Yonkers and all that’s happening. Yonkers has become the poster child for a city on the move, people are proud of that.”
When Spano was first elected Mayor the City’s finances were precarious, with its bond rating one step above junk status. Development had all but stopped, its public housing was deteriorating, and several schools were headed for the state’s failing list.
Since the the City’s bonds have achieved and A rating, more that $3 billion in new commercial and housing development has come in, thousands of new jobs have been created, the lowest crime rate in recorded history and City’s public housing is undergoing a complete renovation. Most important of all, said Spano, has been the turnaround in the City’s schools.
“Our schools were being starved of resources, and the results showed it,” said Spano, “As Mayor, I have made record contributions to the school system every year, our test scores have improved, and our graduation rate is now well above the state average.”
Spano said he is looking forward to Tuesday’s campaign kickoff, and to spending the next three weeks meeting as many Yonkers residents as he can to seek their support.
